INDONESIA TOUR
Java, Bali
21 days
With its 1,500-1,600 species of birds and 13,000+ islands, Indonesia is the richest and most diverse archipelago in the world. The islands we visit on this tour are the most developed and easiest to visit. The varied habitats provide great scenery as well as superb birding: tropical rainforest, swamp forest, sandy beaches, montane moss forest, savanna, marshes, and an islet teeming with breeding water birds. We'll spend 3 days at the famed Ujung Kulon National Park on Java's southwestern coast, home of most of the remaining Javan Rhinos. Our accommodations will range from plain and basic to excellent. The Indonesians are very hospitable and our food will be simple to superb. Some of the birds we'll look for: Great, Lesser and Christmas Frigatebirds, Milky Stork, Green Junglefowl, Green Peafowl, Pink-headed Fruit-Dove, Yellow-throated Hanging-Parrot, Sunda Coucal, Javan Owlet, Javan Frogmouth, Blue-tailed Trogon, Wreathed, Malaysian and Rhinoceros Hornbills, Flame-fronted Barbet, Banded Pitta, Sunda Forktail, Large Wren-Babbler, Crescent-chested Babbler, Chestnut-fronted Shrike-Babbler, Spotted Crocias, Javan Tesia, Blue Nuthatch, Scarlet-headed Flowerpecker, Bali Myna, etc. We'll see Banteng (a superb cow). Leader: Ben King.
